LONG SAULT – Ault Park, home to the Lost Villages Museum, was a busy place during the annual MP/MPP Picnic held in the early afternoon of Sun., July 26 with close to 600 people of all ages attending the annual MP/MPP Community Picnic. From across the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry people attended the event which provides family friendly activities to enjoy.
During the event people were able to speak with their elected respresentatives, visit with friends new and old, listen to live music and enjoy delicious food. Leatherworks Catering was onsite providing pulled pork, BBQ beef or veggie burgers as well as a selection of salads and for dessert ice cream from Stormont Dairy Producers. Maple on the Mooove was onsite to enjoyment of all, with face painting available from Barb Buchanan of the Wild Rosert.
“It was wonderful to see so many families, neighbours, and friends come together for this year’s Community Picnic. The weather was beautiful and the food was delicious. A big Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make the day such a success.” commented SDSG MPP Nolan Quinn in an email from his office. He continued by stating how “Events like this remind us that when we come together as a community, we’re stronger, more connected, and proud of everything that makes Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry such a great place to call home.”
Gerry Boyce, formerly of North Dundas, and currently a resident of South Dundas mentioned he had been coming to this event for 40 years. Barry Strader, also a resident of South Dundas, mentioned like Boyce he enjoys politics and commented how we need to support our elected representatives.
During an intermission in the musical entertainment, both SDG MP Eric Duncan and SDSG MPP Nolan Quinn briefly addressed the crowd gathered at the event. Duncan and Quinn thanked the work done by volunteers and their respective staff as well as the businesses and organizations who provided the meal and entertainment. Both of our elected representatives expressed their gratitude to the community and constituents for their continued support and encouragement.

Carolyn Thompson Goddard, grew up in Chesterville and attended North Dundas District High School. After completing her BA in Political Science at Carleton University she has worked as a medical secretary and library technician. In 2020 she graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Journalism and has been a reporter and column writer for The Chesterville Record for over 10 years.
