Last year Santa made a stop at both the Embrun and Russell parades, and he even brought along Mrs. Claus to Russell. There is still time if you want to be a part of the fun. Tinkess Photo
EMBRUN – The chill in the air and the frost on the car windshields is the first clue, and if you take a look at the calendar, it is impossible to ignore that the holiday season is not that far off. You know what that means…
Correct! Not that long after we wrapped up fair season with the Metcalfe Fair, we are now barrelling head-long into the time of year that gives us the Santa Claus Parade (many of them, actually.)
The dates and routes have been set, but there is still plenty of time to register if you want to be a part of the festivities.
This year, the Embrun parade will take place on the evening of Nov. 29, starting at 6:30 p.m. As in past years the parade will take place on Notre Dame Street and travel from the Town Hall to the Community Centre, located at 8 Blais St.
The Russell Parade will take place the following day, Nov. 30 at 1:00 p.m. and it will proceed along Concession St. from Saint-Thomas Aquinas High School to Russell High School where refreshments will be served in partnership with the Russell Lions Club.
During both parades a collection of food or monetary donations will be made along the way in support of the Community Food Bank.
If your business or organization would like to enter a float or march in either or both parades, there is still time to register, but don’t delay, things seem to happen quickly at this time of year. You can do so right from the Township website (www.russell.ca/news/register-for-the-christmas-parades).
It’s a great way to show community spirit, while having some fun and getting your group’s name right out in front of many local residents.
