WINCHESTER – Close to $2,000 was raised in support of Wounded Warriors Canada by a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament hosted by Therian Martial Arts North Dundas on Feb. 28, 2025.

Shihan Dan Gasser mentioned there were close to 50 people of all ages from dojos in Gatineau, Shawville, Arnprior, Orleans and Kemptville participating in the afternoon event. “It was a really positive atmosphere all round” commented Gasser, who mentioned this is the second year the event has been held. He explained the business became interested in supporting this organization after learning about its important work supporting our veterans and first responders.

Gasser mentioned Therian Martial Arts North Dundas provided the space for the tournament and in association with The Martial Artist in Orleans provided the medals. Donations of juice, snacks and fruit were provided free to participants, with Simply Baked Catering in Winchester donating baked goods and coffee for the event which could be purchased by those attending the event.

On behalf of the business, Gasser extended a sincere thank you to the volunteers who helped to organize the event, those who made donations, to the participants and parents.

When asked about upcoming events, he mentioned Therian Martial Arts North Dundas is planning a fitness class fundraiser in support of the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which is dedicated to research into Parkinson’s Disease.
