AVONMORE – The weather cooperated with lower temperatures, plenty of sun which helped to bring the crowds out to the 165th Avonmore Fair on July 18 through to the 20th. Organized by the Roxborough Agricultural Society, the Avonmore Fair provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy a weekend full of fun as well as demonstrating the commitment to its agricultural heritage.

At an early afternoon ceremony in the SuperStructure, the 165th Avonmore was officially opened by Jersey Canada President Doug Robinson who was joined by several invited guests. Padraig McAleare received the 2025 Roxborough Agricultural Society bursary, with Bobby Robinson receiving the award for most points in the crops division. The ceremonies concluded with the cutting of a celebratory cake by local resident Mavis Wert.

There was plenty for people to enjoy during the fair.  The midway featured several inflatable rides, several vendors and educational booths, and a children’s play area with a petting zoo. Eco Fauna had a booth and there were several agility dog shows from HillTop Canine throughout the fair.

After working up an appetite, there were several choices available including delicious snacks and fair lunches in North Stormont Place provided by the Roxborough Agricultural Society volunteers and members during fair weekend.

The homecraft divisions entries were exhibited in North Stormont Place, with the Exhibition Hall providing the venue for agricultural entries, children’s division as well as educational agricultural displays.

During the weekend there were several agricultural activities including the 4-H Calf Rally on Saturday and the Beef Heifers and Steers Show for 4-H members. Jill Robinson, who with Jennifer Waldroff organized the two livestock shows explained they provide an opportunity for 4-H members to exhibit “their 4-H registered project animal.”

She mentioned in a post fair message the shows have been held for over 50 years and in 2025 there were 72 dairy exhibitors on the Saturday show and 33 beef exhibitors. “Thank you to all 4-H members, leaders, parents, sponsors and volunteers who continue to make this show such a wonderful event!” commented Robinson.

On Saturday a Western Horse Show was held in the horse ring and on Sunday a working equitation demonstration was provided in the same venue by Nation Valley Ranch which was enjoyed by people attending the fair.

A note of thanks is extended to the organizers and volunteers whose work throughout the year brings many events including the Avonmore Fair for people to enjoy.
