ATHENS—The North Dundas Major Midget Demons played two playoff games this past week as they welcomed the Leeds Chargers on Monday night and travelled to Athens for game two on Thursday night.

Demons 6 Chargers 5

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons travelled to Centre 76 in Athens to take on the Leeds Chargers on Thurs., Feb. 28, for game two of the first to three points UCMHL series. The Demons took game one with a commanding 6-0 shutout victory to pickup the first two points of the series and need a win or tie to move onto the next round. 

The Demons opened the scoring just 1:46 into the first period as Ben Fingler scored from Owen Richardson taking a 1-0 lead. The Chargers tied the game at 8:20 but the Demons retook the lead at 8:51 as Cam Sherrer blasted one to the back of the net from Dean Lapier. 

The Chargers shocked the Demons with a pair of goals at 12:38 and with just 58 seconds remaining in the opening frame, took a 3-2 lead into the second period. The Chargers made it 4-2 at 1:58 of the second period but the Demons answered as Lapier lit the lantern at 8:09 from Fingler to make it 4-3. 

The Demons tied the game at 10:11 as Sherrer scored his second of the game unassisted and the teams took a four-all deadlock into the third period. The Demons retook the lead when Colin Minish slid one home from Lapier at 5:50 of the third. 

The Chargers knotted the affair at 11:03 but that didn’t last long as the Demons retook the lead just 22 seconds later as Minish scored his second of the game unassisted. The Demons hung on for the 6-5 victory. 

With the win, the Demons move on to play the Cornwall Colts in round two. Picking up the win in the Demons’ goal was Toby Byrne.

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons welcomed the Leeds Chargers to the Chesterville Arena on Mon., Feb. 25, for game one of the first to three points UCMHL playoff series. The Demons finished the regular season in third place and situated themselves to play against the sixth place Leeds Chargers in round one of the playoffs. 

The Demons opened the scoring just 1:03 into the first period as Curtis Bell scored from Ben Fingler and Owen Richardson taking a 1-0 lead. The Demons took a two-goal lead when Bell scored his second of the game just 26 seconds later from Josh Broad and Richardson. The Demons took a 2-0 lead into the second period. 

The Demons added to their lead when Cam Sherrer blasted one home from Dean Lapier at 6:05 of the second and took a four-goal lead at 10:37 as Blake Waters wrapped one around from Broad and Jayden Rowe. The Demons took a 4-0 lead into the third period. 

The Chargers had nothing going for them on this night as the Demons made it 5-0 when Colin Minish snapped one home from Kendrew Byers at 10:46. The Demons closed out the scoring at 10:56 as Sherrer scored his second of the game from Lapier and Minish. The Demons took the game with an impressive 6-0 victory taking a two-point series lead. Picking up the shutout in goal was Liam Antille.

The North Dundas Major Midget Demons welcome the Cornwall Colts to the Joel Steele Community Centre on Thurs., March 7, for game two of the first to three points UCMHL playoff series at 7:30 p.m. and travel to Cornwall Civic Complex on Fri., March 8, at 8 p.m. for game three, if necessary.
