METCALFE—The South Grenville Rangers played two playoff games this past weekend as they welcomed the Metcalfe Jets on Thursday night for game three and travelled to Metcalfe on Friday night for game four.

The South Grenville Rangers travelled to the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe on Fri., March 1, to take on the Jets for game four of the best of seven NCJHL quarterfinal. The Rangers were coming off a slight 3-2 victory in their previous game taking a 3-0 series lead and had a chance to sweep the series. 

The Rangers opened the scoring when Cameron Dillon scored from Carson Pickup and Joe MacLean just 1:23 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers took a two-goal lead when Noah Edmonds slapped one home from Hayden Sayeau and Justin Saab-Brault at 17:07. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rangers made it 3-0 when Dillon scored his second the game from Zach Hotte at 4:30 of the second period and 4-0 at 5:41 as Brayden Forestell sniped one unassisted. 

The Rangers added another goal with just 1:54 remaining as Forestell scored his second of the game from Dillon and Pickup and took a 5-0 lead into the second intermission. 

It was all Rangers in the third period, scoring four more unanswered goals at 9:45 as Dillon completed his hat trick from Jordan Poulin and Forestell, at 13:19 Poulin lit the lamp from Edmonds and with 1:23 remaining as Poulin scored his second from Tristan Loomis and Edmonds; and closed out the scoring with 26 seconds showing on the clock as Dillon scored his second of the game from Poulin and Drew Holmes.

The Rangers took the game convincingly by a score of 9-0 sweeping the series 4-0. The Rangers will move on to face the Vankleek Hill Cougars in the semifinal. Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Lee Spurgeon and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Tyler Desjardins.

The South Grenville Rangers welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Thurs., Feb. 28, for game three of the best of seven NCJHL quarterfinal. The Rangers went into the game leading the series two games to none and looked to take a stranglehold on the series with a victory. 

The Rangers opened the scoring when Brody Ranger scored off a rebound from Cameron Dillon and Mathieu Giroux at 10:44 on the power play taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rangers took a two-goal lead when Carson Pickup scored an unassisted goal at 6:45 of the second period. The Jets cut the deficit in half when Jarrett Ladouceur scored from Cam Gallant and Evan Mantha on the power play at 9:21. 

The Rangers restored a two-goal lead when Giroux slapped one home from Pickup and goalie, Lee Spurgeon at 13:35 and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. The Jets got to within one, as Ladouceur scored his second of the game from Mantha and Devon Upton at 6:39 of the third period. 

With time winding down in regulation, the Jets pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker and pressured the Rangers but it just wasn’t meant to be as the Rangers were able to hold off the attack taking the game 3-2. 

With the win, the Rangers had a chance to sweep the series in their next meeting. Picking up the win in the Ranger’ goal was Spurgeon and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Tyler Desjardins.
