BONVILLE – The Cornwall Handgun Club (CHC) had their second annual Ladies Range Day on Sat., Aug. 22 at Max’s Range near Bonville. Range Safety Officer Jim Devine explained the club’s range was named after Dr. Maxwell Irwin, one of the first members of the CHC.
The event ran between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with organizers mentioning that 200 ladies had pre-registered, with more showing up to register on the day of the event. Jennifer McDonald, who is also a Range Safety Officer, mentioned the Ladies Range Day is definitely growing in participation, and is a fundraiser for Maison Baldwin House in Cornwall. She and Devine both extended a sincere thank you to the sponsors, the community, CHC members, volunteers for their support.
“The event introduces women and children to the shooting sports in a safe and structured environment” explained Devine. He continued how after registering, participants are instructed about gun safety and proper handling before they are able to proceed to the firing range, with trained range officers working to ensure safety is paramount and that 42 people per hour are able to shoot.
