MOREWOOD – From the official opening of the 2026 Morewood Winter Carnival on Fri., Jan. 30 to the final activities on Sun., Feb. 1, it was a hugely successful event. The event is organized by members of the Morewood Recreation Association (MRA) and firefighters from North Dundas Fire Station 1 in Morewood and has become a greatly anticipated weekend of family fun.
“I need to send out a huge thanks to the Morewood fire department for their continued help each and every year with not only the carnival but for their hard work to keep our outdoor rink in such impeccable condition! Special thanks to the Morewood RA members for all of their hard work!” commented MRA President Brent Richard in a message to The Record.
Just prior to the Firefighter Family Bingo, the official opening of the 2026 Winter Carnival was held between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Richard welcomed people to the event, thanking both organizations for planning a wonderful event and expressing his appreciation to the community for their continued support. North Dundas Deputy Mayor Theresa Bergeron, accompanied by ND Councillor Gary Annable, spoke on the Morewood Recreation Association and complemented the work accomplished. Throughout the carnival there was a silent auction with local businesses and people donating items to bid on.
For the Station 1 firefighters, Saturday dawned early as they prepared for the carnival breakfast, which as in years past, was well attended. There was a full day of activities which included a well attended Euchre Tournament hosted by the Chesterville & District Lions Club during the afternoon. Carnival afternoon activities on Saturday included craft activities for youngsters of all ages, face painting, a bubble artist, magician and drawing contest.
New this year was Bubble Birthdays which provided adults and children alike the opportunity to enjoy some time inside a gigantic bubble. There was no shortage of people lining up for this experience, with RA President Brent Richard the first to experience the fun of being inside one of the bubbles.
Again this year the friendly Inter-Association Challenge with Morewood hosting teams from Inkerman and Marionville, which featured a tug-of-war, nail driving and log sawing contests. Richard noted that the teams will meet again for the friendly competition during the Marionville Carnival scheduled for next week.
After working up an appetite through the day’s activities – whether skating on the ice rink or playing on the enormous snow hill – attendees were able to enjoy a pulled pork dinner sponsored by Camouflage Property Maintenance. The evening concluded with a lively trivia contest hosted by JP.
The final day of the 2026 Winter Carnival in Morewood featured a church service hosted by the Morewood Presbyterian Church in the Community Centre, a day filled with the opportunity to skate, toboggan down the snow hill or participate in a drop in dart tournament.
