CHESTERVILLE – Clients of Scotiabank in Chesterville were stunned and surprised by the announcement on Oct. 16 that the branch would be closed effective May 13, 2026.
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to relocate our services at our branch at Chesterville to our branch at Casselman.” commented Yara Jouzy, Manager, Canadian Banking Communications for Scotiabank. Jouzy continued how the decision was reached after noting that “client preferences changing, and more day-to-day banking being done digitally, we are continuing to evolve how we serve our clients and invest in areas that make it easier for our clients to bank with us in multiple ways”, noting “Our teams in Chesterville and Casselman are committed to assisting all clients with any questions they may have.”
The presence of the Bank of Nova Scotia in Chesterville dates from the 1920’s when the Bank of Ottawa merged with the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS). First located in the Hamilton Block at the corner of King, Main and Water Streets, the BNS moved across the road to its presentation location following the closure of the Bank of Montreal in 1942. In the early 1970’s the present building was opened following the demolition of the old bank building and manager’s house. Years later a historic mural of Chesterville was mounted on one side of the present bank building.
