WINCHESTER – You may have wondered what was going to be housed in the nice, new modern building on Gypsy Lane in Winchester’s south end, but with their grand opening last week, the secret is now out and Tops Scaffold and Shoring Supply now has three locations in Ontario and Quebec to serve the construction industry.
Tops was established in 2010 but has more than 35 years of experience in delivering the reliability, safety and expertise their clients expect, combined with exceptional service and product quality. In addition to their new Winchester location, Tops is also located in Toronto near the intersection of Highway 400 and 401, and in Quebec’s Saguenay. With the Ottawa location now open, they are strategically located to be able to respond quickly to their customer’s needs. Understanding that time is money, they ship from a fully stocked inventory, not from what they need to order. All their product is new, and they sell to the contractors directly who will be using it. (They do not do rentals, although they are frequently approached to do so.)
“The whole name of the game for us is speed,” said Michael Cutrone, business development manager. “Our customers depend on us having the product available, otherwise they could source it elsewhere or figure it out themselves in the long haul. Our whole role is having inventory and getting it to the job site quickly.”
Price is important, no doubt, but convenience matters a great deal as well.
“That’s where you close the deals,” adds Cutrone.
Their new building is impressive from the outside, very modern with lots of glass and black metal, but even more so when you are given a tour of what it is and what it will become. The building has a large, fenced compound and the building itself has five loading bays, the two largest with 15’ doors. Some of the larger product is outside at the moment, but there is plenty of room inside which will fill-up as the new location fits into the supply chain.
The upstairs is bright and open with a board room which looks out on the warehouse floor. Smaller individual offices rim the side of the second story.
Cutrone says that there will only be a small number of employees initially, but that is expected to grow as this location takes on more responsibility. With the amount of large-scale construction which takes place in and around the Nation’s capital, and as locally bridge remediation is a fact of life, it is reasonable to expect that Gypsy Lane will see much more traffic in the future, and that Tops Scaffold and Shoring Supply will be a very busy place.
