RUSSELL – Construction of the municipality’s new recreation complex is continuing at a steady pace, with visible progress both inside the facility and along its exterior as crews push toward a planned fall 2026 opening.
On the outside, large ground-floor glass panels are now being installed, while work is underway to frame the building’s lobby skylight. That preparation is expected to allow additional glass installation to proceed in the coming weeks. Crews are also advancing siding work around the structure, adding insulation and framing ahead of the final metal panel installation. Portions of those panels are already visible along the building’s north side. Roofing work is progressing on the upper levels, including the installation of metal flashing to support the ongoing exterior work.
Inside, masonry crews are constructing walls for arena change rooms as well as pool change and filtration areas. Framing for interior walls and ceilings, along with drywall installation, is continuing throughout the arenas, aquatic area and community hall. Painting in the arena spaces is nearing completion, allowing mechanical and electrical contractors to move into the finishing stage. Installation of systems for lighting, ventilation and other essential services is ongoing throughout the building, including within interior wall spaces.
At the same time, township staff are anxiously preparing for the facility’s opening next year. Planning is underway to recruit staff and develop programming and services for the new complex. Officials say residents will have an opportunity to provide input in the coming months through a public survey aimed at shaping activities, classes and services offered at the site.
With construction milestones being reached on a regular basis, municipal officials say the project remains on track, with noticeable changes occurring week by week as the opening date approaches.
