MOREWOOD – Warm summer temperatures, great food, lively music and plenty of smiles combined to create the perfect evening as residents and visitors gathered for the first Meet Me on Main Street event of the 2026 season on July 8 in Morewood.
For more than a decade, the popular summer series has provided an opportunity for people from across North Dundas and beyond to reconnect with neighbours, support local organizations and businesses, and simply enjoy spending time together. Judging by the steady stream of families, friends and visitors throughout the evening, this year’s opening event was another success.
Although the event carries the name Meet Me on Main Street, it was once again held at the Morewood Community Centre (MCC) on Russell Street rather than on the community’s main street. The change in venue received positive feedback from many attendees, who appreciated the additional parking, open space and improved safety.
Several people commented that hosting the celebration at the community centre eliminated disruptions to traffic while creating a more family-friendly atmosphere where children could safely move between activities. The spacious grounds also allowed vendors, entertainment and community organizations plenty of room to welcome visitors.
Entertainment was provided by The County Lads, whose energetic mix of country favourites and classic hits kept the crowd entertained throughout the evening. Some visitors settled into lawn chairs to listen while others couldn’t resist taking to the dance area to enjoy the music.
“I love the music and visiting with people,” said Janet Clapp, explaining why she enjoys attending the Meet Me on Main Street events each summer.
Her comments reflected the spirit of the evening, where catching up with neighbours and making new acquaintances seemed just as important as the entertainment itself.
Families with young children found no shortage of activities to enjoy. The ever-popular Maple on the Mooove! attraction welcomed curious youngsters, while the playground at the Morewood Community Centre remained busy throughout the evening. The Morewood Recreation Association (MRA) also sponsored an inflatable attraction where children happily bounced away the warm summer evening.
Community organizations were well represented, offering both information and interactive displays. North Dundas Fire Services spoke with residents about fire safety while distributing educational materials and promotional giveaways. Nearby, representatives from the SDG Counties Library introduced visitors to the many programs and services available through the library system, providing fun activities that appealed to children and adults alike.
Food and refreshments were another highlight of the evening. The Morewood Recreation Association operated a refreshment booth where visitors could purchase cold drinks and snacks while supporting local recreation initiatives.
Those looking for a meal had plenty of tempting options. Simply Baked Catering served a selection of delicious entrees and homemade treats that quickly became popular with hungry visitors. Adults were also able to sample locally crafted beverages from Windmill Brewery, Kemptville Brewery and Kings Lock Craft Distillery, showcasing products from businesses across the region.
One of the hallmarks of Meet Me on Main Street is its ability to bring together community groups, local businesses and residents in a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is welcome. Whether visitors came to enjoy the live music, support local vendors, let the children play or simply spend time visiting with friends, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The summer series continues throughout July and August, bringing the same community spirit to communities across North Dundas. Upcoming events are scheduled for Marionville on July 15, South Mountain on July 22, Chesterville on July 29, Winchester on Aug. 5, and conclude in Hallville on Aug. 12.
Additional information about the Meet Me on Main Street series is available through the Township of North Dundas and on the various community Facebook pages, where updates, entertainment details and event information are posted throughout the summer.
