LONG SAULT – At their regularly scheduled meeting on April 22, 2026, South Stormont Council appointed Mr. Karl Doyle as Interim CAO, effective April 22, 2026 to Feb. 28, 2027. At the end of this period, Council will review the appointment and determine appropriate next steps.
Doyle brings extensive experience in municipal senior leadership to this new role, including the last five years as the Director of Development Services at the Township of South Stormont.
Mayor Bryan McGillis expressed his pleasure with the appointment of Doyle. “We’re excited to welcome Karl as the Interim CAO for the Township,” said Mayor McGillis. “Karl has been instrumental in the success of our Township, showing exceptional leadership capabilities and having an excellent working relationship with our Council and Staff teams.”
Doyle brings a level of stability to the administrative leadership role, having played key roles in many of the Township’s recent key initiatives, such as the Long Sault Inland Port Development in Long Sault, waterfront negotiations with the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, and area development strategies for parcels in Ingleside and Rosedale Terrace, amongst others.
“I am extremely humbled, excited, and honoured to be appointed the Interim CAO,” said Doyle in accepting the appointment. “This is an incredible team in South Stormont, from a passionate Council to an extremely dedicated and focused staff compliment. South Stormont is on the rise, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to see that ascension continue.”
Doyle’s appointment comes approximately a month after the CAO position became vacant with the departure of David Barrick, who had been in the position less than three months. No explanation was offered by the Township for the parting of ways.
