CORNWALL – The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry has appointed Jamie Fawthrop as its next chief administrative officer, with the role set to begin June 1.
Fawthrop brings 15 years of municipal experience in eastern Ontario to the position, most recently serving as CAO for the Township of South Glengarry. His appointment fills a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of current SDG Counties CAO Maureen Adams.
A professional engineer and graduate of Queen’s University, Fawthrop has also held senior leadership roles with the City of Cornwall. Over the course of his career, he has overseen a range of municipal portfolios, including planning, economic development, recreation, facilities and infrastructure.
His experience includes leading strategic planning initiatives, managing major capital projects and working with regional partners across eastern Ontario.
Fawthrop said he is looking forward to stepping into the new role and working with council and staff.
“I am honoured to join SDG Counties and excited for the opportunity to serve this dynamic and growing region,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating with Council and our dedicated staff as we build on SDG Counties’ strong momentum and plan for a bright, sustainable future.”
SDG Counties Warden François Landry said council is confident Fawthrop will bring strong leadership to the organization.
“Jamie brings a wealth of municipal knowledge, proven leadership, and a deep understanding of our region,” said Landry. “Council is pleased to welcome him aboard, and we are confident he will serve our communities with integrity, innovation, and a commitment to excellence.”
Fawthrop’s departure from South Glengarry will prompt a leadership transition there, with the township preparing to launch a recruitment process for a new CAO.
Mayor Lachlan McDonald thanked Fawthrop for his service to the municipality.
“On behalf of South Glengarry Council, I’d like to thank our outgoing CAO Jamie Fawthrop for his commitment to our people and our community,” said McDonald. “He fit our culture well with his hard work, character, and kindness. I’m sure that everything that we appreciated about him will lead to great success at the SDG Counties where he will assume their CAO position. Again, to Jamie, thank you for being part of our proud South Glengarry tradition.”
Fawthrop is expected to assume the role at SDG Counties at the start of June as the upper-tier municipality prepares for the transition in administrative leadership.
