You put everything into building your business, but still, sometimes it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone shone a spotlight on you and your business so you could show the world what you have to offer? Generated Photo

SDG – In Canada today, small businesses are much more than local storefronts and family-run companies. They are the backbone of the economy: the largest source of employer firms, a primary driver of employment, and a vital contributor to GDP. Their success – and resilience in the face of economic uncertainty – will continue to shape Canada’s economic landscape for decades to come.

Exactly how great is the concentration of small businesses in Canada? As of late 2023, Canada boasted approximately 1.1 million employer businesses, and 98.1 per cent of these were classified as small businesses, which are defined as enterprises with between 1 and 99 employees. These small enterprises dwarf their medium- and large-sized counterparts in sheer numbers, underscoring their role as the backbone of the Canadian private sector.

The downside of living in a country with so many people with creativity, drive and the entrepreneurial spirit is that it sometimes easy to get lost in the shuffle. You may have come up with a groundbreaking idea, a cutting-edge technological advancement, a new product, or simply a new use for an old product, but if you aren’t able to get the word out and attract your ideal customer, you may not receive the recognition you work so hard to earn.

Wouldn’t it be nice if it was possible to shine a spotlight on your business, so that you could rise above the competition, at least long enough to be noticed? Would you be surprised to know that something like that really exists?

The Record, on a weekly basis has a section we call, appropriately enough, Spotlight. Each week we interview the people who make the many small businesses in this area special and give them a chance to tell the world a bit about themselves, their company, and the product or service they provide. Maybe you are a new business, or maybe you have an anniversary celebrating how long you have been providing your customers with the type of service they deserve.

Typically, the articles run about a half-page in length and include a photo or two, because it is always good to show people as well as tell them. The best part, from a business standpoint, is that this is provided at no cost, except for a few minutes of your time for a short interview from which we create the article.

If we meet in person, we can take the photographs to accompany the article, but if that isn’t possible, we can try to work with photos supplied by you, as long as the quality and resolution is sufficient for a print publication.

If you would like to be featured in a Spotlight article, all you have to do is let us know, and that is as easy as sending an email to editorial@therecordnews.ca and we’ll add you to our list for 2026, or answer any questions you have about the process.
