LONG SAULT – 18 members of South Stormont Fire and Rescue were honoured at a ceremony held on Wed., Nov. 19, at the South Stormont Community Hall in Long Sault. These members had achieved significant service milestones ranging from five to 40 years in their service to the community.
“On behalf of all of Council and our community, we extend our most sincere gratitude to each and every member of our fire service. These community heroes dedicate so much of their time and energy to protecting and educating our community, and we couldn’t be more proud to call them our friends and neighbours,” said South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis in the press release.
Morris Lamer, South Stormont Fire Chief, commented how when recognizing “the dedication and commitment of our fire service team, we must also recognize the incredible support and sacrifices made by their families.” He continued how “the families of our firefighters play a crucial role in supporting these brave men and women who continue to serve our community and keep us safe.”
“On behalf of Council, Staff and the residents of South Stormont, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to all members of South Stormont Fire and Rescue, and our congratulations to those who achieved milestone years of service recognition in 2025.” concluded the municipal press release.
Station 1 firefighters Eric Evans, Noah Konink and Grant Wilson received recognition for their five years of service as did Station 4 firefighter Karley Kuzevski. Dakota Vandeglind from Station 1, Zach Gingras and Patrick Ruest from Station 2 as well as John Brisson and Jared Steele from Station 3 were recognized for their 10 years of service.
Deputy Fire Chief James Walker and Andrew Stewart from Station 4 received recognition for their 20 years of service to South Stormont Fire and Rescue. Recognition for 25 years of service was given to Andrew Ter Horst from Station 1, Kevin Ter Horst of Station 2, as well as Chris Beaudette and Dan Poirier from Station 3.
Drew Cameron of Station 3 received recognition during the ceremony for 30 years of service and Larry Barkley from Station 2 and Kenny Chisholm of Station 4 received recognition for 40 years of service.

Carolyn Thompson Goddard, grew up in Chesterville and attended North Dundas District High School. After completing her BA in Political Science at Carleton University she has worked as a medical secretary and library technician. In 2020 she graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Journalism and has been a reporter and column writer for The Chesterville Record for over 10 years.
