CORNWALL – Eric Duncan, who has served as the Member of Parliament for the riding of SDSG since 2019, was elected as the Member of Parliament for the newly created federal riding of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

From all areas of the riding, supporters gathered at the Wing House in Cornwall to watch. As the polls closed in the riding, people anxiously awaited to learn the voting results, with a loud cheer as results from the riding appeared on the televisions screens showing Duncan was in the lead. When asked about the campaign, Adrian Bugelli, Duncan’s campaign manager, commented there was a lot of support for the candidate from the community, demonstrated by a record number of campaign workers, requests for signs and donors to the campaign.

Soon after being declared elected by news agencies around 10:30 p.m., Duncan entered the Wing House in Cornwall accompanied by members of his family. As cheers resounded throughout the restaurant Duncan thanked his family for their support, Bugelli and all the volunteers who worked on the campaign. He then thanked the electorate for their trust in electing him as their federal representative before meeting with reporters.

The final count, with all 264 polls reporting, had Duncan with 37,441 votes (56.4%), while Liberal Sarah Good received 26, 318 votes (39.7%) and the NDP’s Mario Leclerc received 1,653 votes (2.5%). Green Party candidate Gordon Kubanek (672 votes, 1%), and Libertarian Karl Ivan MacKinnon (270 votes, 0.4%) completed the field.

Noting that the Conservative Party of Canada had run a solid campaign, he mentioned how once all the results are in from across the country the results will be analyzed. Duncan commented how he is looking forward to working and continuing the good relationship that has been developed with municipal and provincial representatives in the riding.
