Blue took on Red in the A final of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League at the Chesterville Arena on Tues., Aug. 20. Blue finished the round robin with a 3-0 record and were able to shut out Red 4-0 to claim the A championship. CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s championships have been decided, as Blue took on Red for the A championship in the early game on Thursday night and Green played host to Yellow for the B championship in the late game.

In the first game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s A championship final, Blue welcomed Red on Thurs., Aug. 29 at the Chesterville Arena. Blue won three of their round-robin games to make it to the final, while Red won twice and their only loss was a 3-2 game against Blue. 

Blue opened the scoring when Rebecca Kennedy blasted on to the back of the net from Lindsay Cummins at 10:27 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Blue took a two-goal lead when Kara Bartholomew swatted one home from Kennedy and Cummins at 11:46 and took a 2-0 lead into the second period. 

Blue made it 3-0 when Bartholomew scored her second goal of the game at 5:41 of the second period from Leigh Ann Dearing and Lindsay Waddell. Blue took the 3-0 lead into the third period. 

Blue scored an insurance marker at 4:55 of the third period as Bartholomew completed her hat trick from Marissa Imrie. Red could not close the gap as Blue hung on for a 4-0 victory. Blue won the A championship to complete a great season finishing first in the regular season and round robin. This is Blue’s fifth consecutive championship after winning in 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015. 

Picking up the shutout in Blue’s goal was Olivia Salmon and suffering the loss in Red’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin.

B champs
Yellow took on Green in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Tues., Aug. 20 for the B championship. Yellow went on to take the game convincingly 7-2 to become the 2019 B champions. Yellow 7 Green 2

In the second game of the night for  the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Green welcomed Yellow for the 2019 B championship. Green upset Yellow for their lone win in the round robin portion of the playoffs; they finished third and had home ice advantage. 

Yellow failed to win a game in the round robin and looked to avenge the loss against Green. Green opened the scoring just 2:44 into the first period as Carly Crump snapped one home from Jackie Morris taking a 1-0 lead. 

Yellow knotted the affair when Alex Roach sniped one from Patti Hall just 57 seconds later. Yellow took their first lead of the game when Cinnamon Boulanger rifled on home from Roach at 8:19. Yellow took a 3-0 lead when Shannon McRae pounded one to the back of the net from Patti Hall at 10:14. 

Yellow kept the pressure on and at 12:33 took a three-goal lead, as Roach scored her second of the game from Jodie Hall. Yellow showed no mercy on Green as Sam Benoit lit the lamp at 13:19 from Patti Hall and took a 5-1 lead into the second period. 

The second period was a little more competitive but Yellow struck again with just 56 seconds remaining in the second period as Roach completed her hat trick from Jodie Hall but they were not done scoring another goal with just 12 seconds remaining when Boulanger powered one to the back of the net from Patti Hall and Roach. Yellow took a 7-1 lead into the third period. 

Green cut the deficit to five when Jaclyn Crump ripped one home from Carly Crump and Morris just 1:12 into the third period. Green pressed to get closer but Yellow’s defence shut them down taking the game 7-2 in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey league’s B championship. 

Picking up the win in Yellow’s goal was Terri Smith and suffering the loss in Green’s goal was Roxanne Crump.
