CARLSBAD SPRINGS – While it certainly doesn’t have the overwhelming profile of the new Amazon distribution centre further north on Boundary Road, a new truck transfer warehouse is clearly taking shape at the corner of Boundary and Mitch Owens Road. The warehouse will receive shipments of goods in trucks which will be transferred to other trucks for delivery throughout the city.

The single-storey facility with 62 loading bays and 52 outside parking spaces occupies about 10 acres with 500 feet of frontage on Mitch Owens and about 827 feet of frontage along Boundary. Two property access points will be created, one on Boundary and one on Mitch Owens. A Transportation Impact Assessment prepared last year indicates the intersection can handle the increased traffic load.

The truck centre is the third major development along a 3 km stretch of Boundary approved since last year, including Amazon and the Capital Region Resources Recovery Centre. Between the three, some 800 jobs will be created. To date, no construction is underway on the CRRRC which met resistance through every step of its development.
