WILLIAMSBURG—The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers played a single game this past week as they welcomed the Kemptville Wildcats on Wednesday night.

Pioneers 7 Wildcats 7

The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers welcomed the Kemptville Wildcats to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Wed., July 3, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. This was both teams’ first game of the summer league as the Pioneers looked to build on their C championship from the spring league. 

The Wildcats had a good start scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers scored a single in the bottom of the first but left the bases loaded and trailed 5-1 heading into the second inning. 

The Pioneers’ pitcher, Brady Barrie, allowed the first Wildcat batter on base but struck out the next three. The Pioneers responded in the bottom of the second scoring the maximum five runs taking a 6-5 lead into the third inning. 

The Wildcats tied the game with a single in the top of the third and their defence held the Pioneers off the score sheet in the bottom of the inning. 

The Wildcats took their second lead of the game scoring another run in the top of the fourth. The Pioneers got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but were unable to get him home as they trailed 7-6 heading into the fifth inning. 

The Wildcats loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but the Pioneers’ defence held them on the bags. The Pioneers scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at seven. The game was called after the fifth inning was complete; the time limit expired and the teams had to settle for a 7-7 tie. 

Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Terrence Mudde, Seb Lafrance, Barrie, Aiden Hutt, Cam Shavers, Caleb Machan and Marty McLeod all scored singles. Pitching for the Pioneers were Nick Guy in the first inning, Barrie in the second, third and fourth inning and Cam Shaver in the fifth.
