CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off week seven with Red taking on Yellow in the first game of the night and Blue taking on Green in the night cap on Thurs., May 30, at the Chesterville Arena.

In the first game of the evening in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Yellow played host to Red. Red went into the game in second place, two points back of the first place Blue squad and Yellow sat tied for third with a pair of wins. 

Red opened the scoring at 5:37 of the first period as Michelle Lang fired one home from Emma Grady and Jessica Rutley taking a 1-0 lead. Yellow knotted the affair when Alex Roach roofed one from Cinnamon Boulanger and MacKenzie Thomas at 12:58. 

Yellow took their first lead of the game when Roach scored her second goal of the game with just 1:58 remaining in the opening frame unassisted and took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Red tied the game at the three-minute mark of the second period as Steph Dafoe snapped one home unassisted. The teams took a two-all draw into the third period. 

Yellow retook the lead when Thomas slapped one to the top right hand side of the net while falling at 7:40 from Angela Seely. Red knotted the game just 50 seconds later when Grady slapped one to the back of the net from Lang. 

The teams pressed to score the game winner but neither team was able to break the tie as the game ended in a three-all draw. With the tie, Red moved to within one point of Blue, and Yellow moved a point ahead of Green for third place. Playing goal for Red was Cashelle Baldwin and Teri Smith.

In the second game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Green played host to Blue. Blue went into the game in sole possession of first place with three wins and a tie while Green sat in fourth place with two wins so far in the season. 

Green opened the scoring when Carly Crump pounded one home from Jaclyn Crump just 1:38 into the first period. Green held the 1-0 lead heading into the second period. Blue evened the score when Jennifer Whitteker sniped one just 1:20 into the second period from Lindsay Waddell and took their first lead when Kara Bartholomew slid one to the back of the net from Kaila Beckstead and Hailey Imrie at 8:40. 

Blue took the 2-1 lead into the third period. The teams battled to a scoreless draw in the final stanza. Blue picked up their fifth win of the season moving three points up on the second place Red’s. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin (spare) and suffering the loss in the Green’s goal was Roxanne Crump.
