CHESTERVILLE—The North Dundas Rockets played just a single game this past weekend as they welcomed the Gatineau Hull-Volant on Saturday night.

The North Dundas Rockets welcomed the Gatineau Hull-Volant to the Chesterville Arena on Sat., Dec. 15, in the NCJHL. The Rockets were coming off an 8-4 trouncing of the West Carleton Inferno in their last game but still sat in second place in the East Division, six points behind the South Grenville Rangers.
The Rockets opened the scoring when Tom Fingler pounded one home off a rebound from Dylan Robinson and Sebastien Roy at 3:23 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Volant tied the game just 37 seconds later but the Rockets retook the lead at 6:35 as Justin Lefebvre blasted one to the back of the net from Brad Stitt and Brad Nash.
The Rockets went up by two as Nash slapped home a rebound at 6:52 from Lefebvre and Stitt. The Rockets took a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Rockets made it 4-1 when Nash scored his second goal of the game from Lefebvre just 1:06 into the second period.
The Volant did not go away and were able to score a pair of unanswered goals at 9:02 and 11:41. The Rockets took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission. The Rockets made it 5-3 when Fingler scored his second of the game from goaltender, Reilly Tondreau at 3:12 of the third period.
The pesky Volant would not go quietly as they got back to within one at 11:34. With time winding down, the Volant pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but the Rockets’ defence closed out the game with a 5-4 victory.
With the win, the Rockets moved to within four points of the Rangers in first. The Rockets outshot the Volant 38-36. Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Tondreau making 33 saves.
