CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Farmer’s Market opened for the season on Sat., May 19. Local vendors lined the sidewalk along the waterfront to offer homemade products to the community.
Some vendors will be at the market weekly, while others have chosen to show up every other week. Products available include jams and spreads, plants, baked goods, and tasty Thai cuisine made onsite.
The Chesterville Farmer’s Market is a way of showcasing local food and offering the community a place to connect their products with the people making them. The vendors were happy to be out despite the threat of rain and community members were a constant throughout the day, stopping in to pick-up their favourite treats.
Sarah Meharg enjoyed the market with her daughters and their friends. The group had chocolates, some Thai cuisine and bought cookies for their dad at home. Meharg told the Record, “We like to support local. The kids get to see where their produce and food comes from and it gives them a connection with the community.” Meharg and her husband of Armour Development and are active members in the community. She continued that they have been waiting impatiently for the market to open.
The market will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. The market is scheduled to remain open throughout the summer and fall until Oct. 6.
