Spring luncheon

CHESTERVILLE – Once a month, the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 30 Mill St. in Chesterville welcomes dozens of community members to its luncheon.
The tradition has continued from before the memory of current church Auxiliary members, of whom between eight and 12 work at each meal. The meals are served on the last Wednesday of every month, and offer a variety of plates. The March luncheon included ham, scalloped potatoes, cabbage salad, roll, dessert and coffee or tea.
Anne Langabeer, a coordinator, has been involved with the church for much of her life. “I’ve been the organist here for 54 years,” she said with a laugh. “The year I got married I told them I would take it until they found somebody else.”
She has another strong connection to the church. Her great-great-grandfather Hummel donated the land the church stands on.
Besides the dinners, the thrift store in the church basement is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays for a few hours in the middle of the day. Every year the auxiliary members also raise funds by making and selling home made pies in the fall. “Last year we made 1,755 pies,” Langabeer said. “I don’t want to pick up a rolling pin again until September!”
