CHESTERVILLE – One of the sure signs of spring for local residents is the opening of the Snack Shack located in the parking lot at the corner of King and Ralph Streets. With the recent retirement of long-time owner/operator Bill Leclair, Matthew Carriere recently purchased the business with it opening in late April.

“I am happy to be given the opportunity to take over the Snack Shack” said Carriere in a recent interview with The Record. He wishes to build on the success of the business by keeping the experience of visiting the Snack Shack as similar as possible for customers. This is being achieved by keeping the same menu and employing many of the same staff, with one change a new logo for the business.

He is the owner of Fenced Ottawa, a construction/renovation business for both commercial and residential projects. It was while in Chesterville working on a project that he felt drawn to this North Dundas community and soon decided to move to the area. When the Snack Shack came up for sale, Carriere thought this was be a good opportunity to become part of the community, get to know the local people and continue the LeClair’s legacy of serving good food to customers.

When asked about the importance of a small business to a rural community, he explained how businesses such as his provide the community an opportunity to come together. Carriere continued how customers will visit the Snack Shack to pick up a meal to take home or enjoy outdoors as well as stopping for a treat when out for a walk.

He enjoys the flexibility of running his own business as well as keeping busy and knowing that he is providing his staff with employment and his customers with a bite to eat. For those who are thinking of starting or purchasing an established business, he mentioned it is very important to be confident, caring and honest when dealing with the public. He continued that aftercare of the needs of customers is important to ensure the quality of their experience is good.

The Snack Shack is open between April 30 and mid-October, on Wednesday through Sunday between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. More information is available by dropping by or by visiting their Facebook page.
