CARDINAL—The North Dundas Rockets played two tilts this past weekend as they welcomed the Metcalfe Jets on Saturday night and travelled to Cardinal to take on the South Grenville Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

The North Dundas Rockets travelled to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Sun., Jan. 27, to take on the South Grenville Rangers in the NCJHL. After knocking off the Metcalfe Jets in their previous game, the Rockets had a chance to move to within one point of the Rangers who sat at the top of the West Division standings. 

The Rangers opened the scoring at 4:13 of the first period as Chris Row scored from Brody Ranger taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers took a two-goal lead when Justin Saab-Brault scored from Mathew Giroux at 14:53. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The teams battled to a scoreless second period with the Rangers carrying the 2-0 lead into the second intermission. 

The Rockets cut the deficit in half when Jarrett Williams scored on a breakaway from Connor Roth and Matt Cowley just 41 seconds into the third period. 

The Rangers retook a two-goal lead when Giroux fired one home from Jordan Dodge at 5:16. The Rangers made it 4-1 at 14:43 as Sam Martin scored an insurance marker from Jack Finnerty. The Rangers took the game 4-1 restoring their five-point lead over the Rockets for first place. 

Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Lee Spurgeon and suffering the loss in the Rockets’ goal was Reilly Tondreau.

The North Dundas Rockets welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Chesterville Arena on Sat., Jan. 26, in the NCJHL. The Rockets went into the game in second place in the West Division, five points behind the first place South Grenville Rangers. With a win, the Rockets would move to within three of the Rangers and face them the next day setting up a battle for first. 

The Rockets opened the scoring at 9:36 of the first period as Matt Cowley snuck in off the point and roofed one from Connor Roth and Dylan Robinson taking a 1-0 lead. The Rockets made it 2-0 when Justin Lefebvre sniped one from Cameron Brown at 10:40. The Rockets took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Rockets took a three goal lead when Will Watson slapped one home from in close at 4:06 of the second period from Hugo Lusignan and Pierce Egan. 

The Jets got on the score sheet when former Rocket, Tristan Staff pounded one home from the top of the left circle from Jarrett Ladouceur and Mark Morrison at 5:34. The Rockets restored their three-goal lead when Robinson batted one home from Jarrett Williams and Roth at 9:35. Williams gave the Rockets a four-goal lead at 10:57 from Roth and Cowley. The Rockets took a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. 

It was all Rockets in the third period as Roth lit the lamp from Lefebvre and Brad Stitt on the power play at 6:09. The Rockets made it 7-1 at 10:30 as Williams scored his second goal of the game while shorthanded from Roth. 

The Rockets hung on for the 7-1 victory moving to within three points of the Rangers for first place. The Rockets outshot the Jets 36-23. Picking up the win in the Rockets’ goal was Caleb Gervais making 22 saves and suffering the loss for the Jets was Tyler Desjardins making 29 saves.
