CASSELMAN— The Casselman Vikings had a busy weekend with three games as they welcomed the Winchester Hawks on Thursday night, travelled to Arnprior to take on the Packers on Friday night and then played host to the Ottawa West Golden Knights on Sunday night.

Vikings 3 Golden Knights 0
The Vikings welcomed the Golden Knights on Sun., Oct. 14, in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off their largest victory of the season beating the Arnprior Packers 11-2. The two teams battled to a scoreless first period but the Golden Knights outshot the Vikings 15-12.

It remained a defensive battle until late in the second period when the Vikings’ Joel Hunt scored his ninth goal of the season from Shawn Patterson and Louis Chabot with 2:32 remaining.

The Vikings took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. Hunt scored his second of the game at 7:47 of the third period from Patterson to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead. The Vikings made it 3-0 when Frederick Gagnier scored his fourth of the season from Mathieu Talbot at 8:25.

The Vikings hung on for the 3-0 victory moving back to within six points of the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians. The teams tied for shots on goal each with 35. Picking up the shutout in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell stopping all 35 shots.

Vikings 11 Packers 2
The Vikings travelled to the Nick Smith Arena in Arnprior to take on the Packers on Fri., Oct. 12, in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a shootout victory over the Winchester Hawks the previous night and sat in sole possession of second place in the Martin Division.

The Packers had the same amount of points (14) but sat in the top spot in the Richardson Division. The Vikings opened the scoring when Gabrielle Rousselle snapped one home from Tyler Ballantyne and Frederick Gagnier at 4:51 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings made it 2-0 when Louis Chabot scored his second goal of the season from Brady Cloutier and Ballantyne at 7:54. The Vikings took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Vikings took a 3-0 lead when Joel Hunt scored his eighth goal of the season from Kyle Green and Dylan Robinson just 1:47 into the second period. Rousselle scored his second goal of the game at 14:31 of the second period from Spencer to make it 4-0.

The Packers got on the scoreboard at 15:43 and again at 17:29 to get to within two goals. The Vikings took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. The Vikings came out of the dressing room on fire as Gagnier scored his second goal of the season from Kyle Green and Dylan Robinson just 1:47 into the third period.

The Vikings had no mercy on the Packers as Shane Spencer scored his fifth of the campaign from Chabot and Hunt at 4:52. The Vikings’ offence kept up the pressure and scored again at 7:20 as Samuel Mattie scored his eighth of the season on the power play from Pierce Britton and Brady Cloutier.

The Vikings made 8-2 when Gagnier scored his second of the period from Andrew Black and Hunt at 14:18. Jason Cossette gave the Vikings a 9-2 lead at 14:37 from Mattie and Spencer.

The Vikings made it 10-2 when Mathieu Talbot scored his second of the season from Gagnier and Rousselle and closed out the scoring as Rousselle completed his hat trick with just 20 remaining in the game from Robinson and Mikael Bissonnette.

The Vikings took the game 11-2 and moved to within six points of the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians. The Vikings outshot the Packers 45-27 and picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 25 saves on 27 shots.

Vikings 4 Hawks 3 (SO)
The Casselman Vikings welcomed the Winchester Hawks to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Thurs., Oct. 11, in the CCHL2. The Vikings sat in the two-way tie with the Char-Lan Rebels for second place in the Martin Division while the Hawks sat in sixth place with two wins and six losses.

The Hawks opened the scoring when Hunter Randell scored his second goal of the season unassisted at 6:24 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. The Vikings knotted the affair at one when Louis Chabot lit the lantern at 9:59 from Dylan Robinson and Joel Hunt.

The teams took the one-all dead lock into the first intermission. The Vikings took their first lead of the game when Shawn Patterson scored his third of the season just 13 seconds into the second period unassisted.

The Vikings made it 3-1 when Brady Cloutier fired one to the back of the net from Samuel Mattie and Shane Spencer at 4:47. The Hawks got back to within one when Dakota Seaman scored his second of the season from William MacDonald at 10:25.

The Hawks quickly tied the game when Kyle Kuehni scored his third of the season from Randell on the power play at 11:10. Neither team was able to score before the clock wound down in the middle frame although the Vikings did outshoot the Hawks 16-9.

The Hawks shut down the Vikings’ offence in the third period but were outshot 11-3 so the game headed to a three-on-three overtime period. Neither team was able to score in the extra frame so the game headed to a shootout.

Chabot and Hunt scored for the Vikings in the number two and three spots while the Hawks were unable to score as the Vikings took the game 4-3.
