CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off week 10 with a pair of games as Blue welcomed Green in the first game of the night and Red squared off against Yellow in the second game.

Blue 7 Green 3: In the opening game of the night in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League Blue played host to Green, on Thurs., June 28, at the Chesterville Arena. First place Blue looked to string their unbeaten streak to 10 games and Green was looking for their second win of the season. Blue opened the scoring just 2:43 into the first period when Anna Fawcett bulged the twine from Kara Bartholomew and Lindsay Cummins to take a 1-0 lead.

Green knotted the affair at one when Selena Shane buried one from Erin Cochrane at the eight-minute mark but Blue answered right back as Carly Crump slapped one home from Rebecca Alves and Kelly Francis at 8:42 restoring their one-goal lead.

Blue took a two-goal lead when Bartholomew scored an unassisted goal at 13:25 and took a 3-1 lead into the second period. Green got to within one as Alecia Jones slipped one home unassisted just 2:01 into the second period.

With time winding down in the middle frame, Blue responded as Cummins snapped one to the back of the net from Fawcett and Francis with just 1:43 on the clock to make it 4-2. Blue took that two-goal lead into the third period.

Green got to within one again as Patti Hall fired one home from Shane and Catia Dias just 1:47 into the third period. Blue stretched their lead to two as Bartholomew scored her second of the game from Cummins and Fawcett at 4:55.

Blue made it 6-3 when Fawcett connected for her second tally of the night from Bartholomew and Cinnamon Boulanger at 7:25 and 7-3 at 10:58 as Jaclyn Crump scored an unassisted marker. Blue took the victory 7-3 to remain undefeated.

Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Green’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin.

Red 6 Yellow 3: In the second game of the evening, Red welcomed Yellow. Red went into the game in second place while Yellow sat in third. With a win, Red could all but end Yellow’s chance to catch them. Red opened the scoring at 4:22 of the first period as Jen Whitteker sniped one from Lesley Ann Tupper to take a 1-0 lead.

Yellow responded with a goal just 26 seconds later as Alex Roach blasted one home from Jessica Winters tying the game at one. Yellow took their first lead of the game at 7:12 as Michelle Lang steered one to the back of the net from Shannon McRae and Laura Melenhorst but Red tied the game just 47 seconds later as Kaila Beckstead swatted one home from Jessica Rutley and Emma Grady.

Red retook the lead when Tupper scored an unassisted goal at 8:53 making it 3-2. Tupper lit the lamp for the second time of the night at 11:33 from Whitteker and took a 4-2 lead into the second period. Red took a three-goal lead when Rutley scored an unassisted goal at 10:35 and a four-goal lead at 11:12 as Beckstead scored her second of the game but there were no helpers given out.

Red took a 6-2 lead into the third period. Yellow netted the only goal of the third period as Melenhorst slipped one to the back of the net from Shannon McRae and Heather Erwin at 3:23 but it wasn’t enough as Red took the game doubling up Yellow 6-3. With the win Red has all but sealed up second place.

Picking up the win in Red’s Goal was Julia Shaver and suffering the loss in Yellow’s goal was Patti Mitton.

Up next: Red welcomes Green in the first game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., July 5, at the Chesterville Arena at 7 p.m. Yellow plays host to Blue in the second game at 8 p.m.
