WILLIAMSBURG —The Williamsburg Major Green Pioneers played just a single game this past week as they welcomed the Kemptville Green Pioneers on Tuesday night.
Pioneers 13 Wildcats 9: The Williamsburg Major Green Pioneers welcomed the Kemptville Green Wildcats to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Tues., May 29, in the Upper Canada Little League. The Pioneers were coming off of a 12-3 win over the Red Wildcats putting them over .500 on the season as they looked to better their record. The game was dubbed the battle of the “Green Machines.”
The Wildcats opened the scoring with a single in the top of the first inning and left a runner in scoring position. The Pioneers scored three runs in the bottom of the second taking a 3-1 lead into the second inning.
The Pioneer’s pitcher Carter O’Brien struck out the side in the top of the second inning sitting all the Wildcats down. The Pioneers took advantage scoring the maximum five runs in the bottom of the second taking an 8-1 lead.
The Wildcats got four runs back in the top of the third inning but the Pioneer’s bats remained hot scoring another five runs in the bottom of the third taking a 13-5 lead.
The Wildcats only got four to the dish in the top of the fourth inning but failed to cash any. The Pioneers didn’t fare much better in the bottom of the inning only getting five to the plate leaving one in scoring position.
The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the fifth but it was too little too late as the Pioneers hung on for the 13-9 victory.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Dorion Sheldrick and Carter O’Brien with two each and Terrence Mudde, Aiden Hutt, Hudson Urquhart, Devon Honders, Quinn Barrie, Mason Paradis, Parker Cole, Ryder Kelly and Jude Pietersma all scored singles.
Pitching for the Pioneers were O’Brien in the first and second, Urquhart in the third and fourth and Aiden Hutt in the fifth to close out the game.
The Pioneers’ head coach, Brian Shaver stated, “We won the battle of the Green teams. Aiden Hutt closed it out, making his major pitching debut. Terrence Mudde made a double play in the fourth, catching a pop while playing short stop then tagged the runner trying to get back to second base. We had some key two-out hits during the first two innings. Carter struck out the side in the second.”
