CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League featured two games on Thursday night as Red welcomed Blue in the first game of the night and Yellow played the host to Green.

Blue 6 Red 2: In the first game of the evening in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., May 24, at the Chesterville Arena, Red played host to Blue. Blue went into the game undefeated after five weeks and looked to extend their winning streak to six, while Red sat in second place four points behind Blue.

Red opened the scoring when Kaila Beckstead snapped one to the back of the net from Lesley Ann Tupper and Lindsay Feeley at 5:18 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. Red knotted the affair at one when Anna Fawcett pounded one home from Lindsay Cummins and Kara Bartholomew at 8:09.

Red retook the lead as Feeley found twine at 13:10 from Tupper and Beckstead and took a 2-1 lead into the second period. Blue tied the game again at 5:42 as Fawcett scored her second of the game from Bartholomew and Cummins.

Blue took their first lead of the game when Carly Crump fired one home from Jacklyn Crump and Sam Benoit at the seven-minute mark. Blue took a two-goal lead when Cinnamon Boulanger sniped one at 9:55 from Rebecca Alves and Cummins to make it a 4-2 game.

Blue made it 5-2 as Carly Crump scored her second of the game from Bartholomew. Blue took the 5-2 lead into the third period and added to it at 7:30 as Fawcett completed her hat trick from Bartholomew.

Blue’s defence took over after that, holding Red off the score sheet taking the game 6-2. With the win Blue moved six points ahead of Red and remains undefeated in the season.

Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Red’s goal was Julia Shaver.

Yellow 6 Green 3: In the second game of the night, Yellow welcomed Green. Yellow went into the game in third place with four points and had a chance to move within two points of Red in second with a win. Green was still looking for that elusive first win.

The teams battled to a scoreless first period but things changed in the second period. Green opened the scoring when Patti Hall slapped one home from Hailey Imrie and Angie Van Gurp-Helmer at 3:25 of the second period taking a 1-0 lead.

Yellow returned the favour as Janice Casselman slipped one home from Alannah McRae and Laura Melenhorst at 7:11. Yellow took their first lead of the game at 10:40 as Jessica Winters willed one to the back of the net from Alannah McRae and Michelle Lang but that lead was diminished with just 1:30 remaining in the middle frame as Van Gurp-Helmer lit the lantern from Selena Shane and Catia Dias. The teams took a two-all draw into the third period.

Yellow retook the lead when Shannon McRae lifted one to the back of the net from Melenhorst and Jackie Morris at 2:43 to make it 3-2. Yellow made it 4-2 when Casselman scored her second of the game from Melenhorst and Shannon McRae at 4:27.

Yellow kept the pressure on and Morris buried one at 9:45 from Winters to make it 5-2. Green scored to make it 5-3 as Hall scored her second of the night from Van Gurp-Helmer and Imrie. Yellow retired their three-goal lead with just three seconds showing on the clock as Morris scored her second of the game from Winters and Lang.
Yellow took the game 6-3 moving to within two points of Red in second place. Picking up the win in Yellow’s goal was Patti Mitton and suffering the loss in Green’s was Cashelle Baldwin.

Up next: In week seven of the CWBHL, Red welcomes Yellow in the first game of the night at the Chesterville Arena at 7 p.m. Blue plays host to Green in the second game at 8 p.m.
